Kenzie: Baptism

by Camille Diamzon

It’s official, Mackenzie has been baptised into the Catholic faith! It was a mission to coordinate a baptism date as her godparents and family live in different states. We are so thankful we were able to get a date when almost all of her family was able to attend and the church made an exception to allow families to be baptised on December 26.

Kenzie has 8 godparents who will help her through life. We chose those who are close to us and who we know will help guide Kenzie. It wasn’t an easy decision, and one we took over a year to decide on. We chose godparents who we know would treat Kenzie as their own daughter and godparents who she will be able to turn to during the tough times in her life. We understand that 8 may be excessive but we grew up with 10 godparents being the norm.

During the ceremony, she was very unsettled, babbling throughout and even decided to do a number two. We are so thankful that the Deacon and people in attendance were understanding and patient with us.

To save on costs, we DIY’d the personalised candles with metallic decal paper for her godparents and created watercolour artwork of her 20 week ultrasound as a giveaway to all her guests. Unfortunately, December 26 is a public holiday and every restaurant we called (that was nearby the church) was closed for that day. We held the reception at my parents house.

She was so spoiled on the day by her grandparents and godparents. She was showered with so much love and support during her baptism and we’re so happy to bring her up in the Catholic faith.
