My goodness, Kenzie is officially 2 MONTHS OLD! I was overcome with emotions that I took a break from my phone and social media for the day so I can stop and stare at our baby and take it all in. Ramon and I look at Kenzie and we can’t believe she’s here, she completes us! She was our missing puzzle piece!
We finally had a weekend we were free with no commitments so we slept in past 8am and it felt incredible! Unfortunately on the Saturday, she suffered an extremely bad case of what Dr Google claims is “silent reflux” which resulted in a very unsettled Kenzie and only settled her once she committed a large amount of milk and a bath with lavender bath wash.
So far, here is her tally:
Nappy Changes: 43
Sleep: 89 hours
Feeds: 80
People always say “all babies do is sleep”, this is true but what they don’t tell you is that it is BROKEN sleep. They forget to add the word “broken” in the sentence. Yes, babies sleep for 15-18 hours a day but it’s broken sleep which is at times equivalent to having little to no sleep at all. We have been so fortunate that Kenzie sleeps like a dream at night, still sleeping 5-7 hours and only wakes when I do a nappy change. In total a good 8+ hours of sleep which is broken in 3 hour increments (largely due to the fact I awake to sore breasts and need to pump). However, during the day, we are lucky to squeeze in a shower and toilet break during her 30 minute naps during the day. She has become so alert during the day and extra cuddly that I’ve mastered having a toilet break with her in my arms! – Us mothers need to do what we need to do, especially when nature calls!
Kenzie is smiling more often, almost to the point where she tries to squeeze out a giggle but quite can’t manage one just yet and when you are talking to her, she tries to communicate back with her coos. Her development has been right on track and I’m so thankful! I use two mobile apps; The Wonder Weeks and Sprout. Without these two apps, I would be lost! I am looking forward to the day Kenzie stops cleanching her fists so hard as she’s always pulling on my hair and I’ve lost quite few strands in the process!
It’s official, Kenzie can roll over! I’m all for her her learning new things but my heart skipped a beat when I saw her roll over for the first time. As a first time mother, you worry about everything and this was no different. All I can think of was making sure we start swaddling her again and keeping her away from loose items on the bed so fat she doesn’t suffer SIDS and it gave me more motivation to continue daily exercises to strengthen her neck, arms and back muscles.
We’re moving next week and we hope this doesn’t disrupt Kenzie’s routine. We worry for her and Bella as it’ll be our new home for 6 months before we move into our forever home in April.
We’ve started Christmas planning! It will be Kenzie’s first Christmas and I want it to be extra special. I can’t believe time is zooming past and before you know it, we’re packing again and moving interstate!
Can’t wait til she starts to giggle and her first words! So much can happen in a week! We wonder what week 9 will bring us!
