Kenzie: Eighteen Weeks Old

by Camille Diamzon

We’ve reached eighteen glorious weeks with Kenzie in this bright, beautiful world and she brings us so much happiness.

So far, here is her tally:
Nappy Changes: 47
Sleep: 91 hours
Feeds: 85

This week started with a very talkative girl who refused to go to sleep earlier than 10pm and nap for longer than 30 minutes at a time. They say Leap 4 is when routines are thrown out the window and this week has proven that day catnaps and long night sleeps are here to stay.

Kenzie has started to recognise familiar faces and gets upset when certain people hold her. She will tolerate it for a few minutes before she pulls a sad face and cries real tears. However, she will smile at them with no problem at all as long as it’s from afar. She still gives us warning before she cries by pulling the cutest sad face ever!

She giggles more frequently, especially when we tickle her neck and we’ve caught her rolling onto her tummy a handful of times. It’s gotten me worried that she will roll in her sleep as she had done a couple of times before. Her teething is still and issue and she’s self soothing with her fist in her mouth and chomping hard. We’ve bought some Bonjela for when she needs it but haven’t tried it yet. She’s finally out of her infant 4-8kg nappies and have upgraded her to crawlers! Our little one is growing so fast!

4 month check up and vaccination was rescheduled for next week as he doctors fridge malfunctioned. We have another week of building up her confidence to withstand the huge needle they inject into her thighs. Hopefully she’ll take it like a champ but we’ll have to wait and see.

We’re meeting Santa next week at the pet shop so she can have her photos done with Delius, our family dog and can I just ask… why are the photos so bloody expensive?! The packages start at $40 for a print that only costs a few CENTS to print at Kmart! Seriously, if it wasn’t one of those “firsts” that we wanted to check off our list, we would have skipped it altogether!

Next week she attends a birthday party and we are hoping to schedule in a swim lesson once her vaccinations are done. Oh boy, another week gone and cannot wait to see what next week has in store for us.
