Kenzie is 43 weeks this week and that’s 43 weeks since I’ve been able to go toilet in peace. It’s unpredictable if I’ll get a little helper whole will hand me way too much toilet paper or if she’ll make me regret not holding it in for another unhealthy hour of two. Seriously, #momlife is chaotic!
So far, here is her tally:
Nappy Changes: 44
Sleep: 96 hours
Feeds: 92
Kenzie’s first tooth has finally come through her bottom gum and she’s finally at ease. I wish I had bought her banana toothbrush/teether earlier as she has been munching down on it every day since she got her hands on it. It’s truly helped relieve some discomfort she’s been feeling as the tooth was growing out. I’m just hoping she won’t bite down while breastfeeding because it’s something I am not looking forward to. Lately, her tooth was giving her grief and she was refusing breakfast for a few days but as soon as the tooth poked through her gums, she was back to her old self again.
Her favourite saying this week has been “Dada” and “Daddy”. We try to make sure we respond to her every time she talks and babbles so she learns how to make conversation. She’s also flips the pages in her books and starts babbling like she is reading. It looks like Leap 7 is the start of the “copycat” phase. We push a button, Kenzie pushes a button, we shake a rattle, she shakes a rattle, we sing, she sings, we dance, she dances. We’ve started to be very careful of what we do, what we say and how we say it. Kenzie has also learned the meaning of “No” and when she is in trouble. However, when we say certain words like “Shaggy” in a certain way, she will think she is in trouble and cry in an instant. She’s definitely understanding some words and understanding when she is in trouble but she is still trying to differentiate between reacting to the meaning of the word or how it’s said. For example, when I was angry at Bella, our cat, Kenzie thought she was in trouble and cried.
Just when we getting a few minutes of “me” times thanks to our iDevices, Kenzie has decided she no longer wants to watch her videos for longer than 10 minutes a day. Her attention span for videos has decreased and instead she wants to stand, crawl, put everything in her mouth and discover new things. This leap has definitely thrown us a curve ball. I’ve looked to The Wonder Weeks Book for advice on how we can overcome this leap.
We struggled to get through this week caring for a baby, a cat and a dog (who is blind, deaf, diabetic and has cancer). Ramon worked from home to help me with housework. A note to anyone planning on renovating or building or designing a home, do not get white glossy tiled floors, a mirrored splash back and mirrored stovetop as it’s extremely difficult to clean! Now, to prepare ourselves for the next week of Leap 7.
Wish us luck!
