Kenzie: Six Weeks Old

by Camille Diamzon

Kenzie finally got to meet her Grandma and Grandpa (Ramon’s Parents) who have kindly come to not only meet their first grandchild but to help us look after her for a few days so we can attend my sisters’ wedding.

So far, here is her tally:
Nappy Changes: 55
Sleep: 90 hours
Feeds: 111

I get asked by friends all the time “how are you able to find the time to blog with a newborn?”, I’m writing this as Kenzie is lying on my chest comfort sucking on my breast while we attempt to find her a dummy as she has clearly decided Avent and Tommee Tippee are not up to par with Ramon’s pinky finger.

We marched on over to Baby Bunting and bought another 2 more dummies; NUK and Gumdrop. We’re determined to get her on dummy! Luckily she finally latches onto NUK and a few days later she decided she wanted back on the Tommee Tippee, oh boy!

Without Ramon’s help during the day, it takes me a soild 6-7 hours for me to get ready to head out of the house, that includes a clean the room, laundry, dishes, toilet break, shower, getting changed, hair and makeup and prepping Kenzie’s bottles and nappy bags. She’s decided to only sleep long periods at night and for only 25 minute chunks during the day and in between I’m playing with her or trying to settle her. It makes me wonder why parents do this more than once! Parenting is a tough gig!

I’ve been playing Kenzie some classic hits; Baa Baa Black Sheep, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, Mary Had a Little Lamb, ABC’s and The Itsy Bitsy Spider! In between her beloved Aerosmith and her new found favourite Michael Jackson.

It’s been one heck of a challenging week and just when you think you’ve gotten into a pattern and a routine, it gets thrown out the window the following day.

Week 7, let’s hope it’s a better one!
