It’s week 5 and Ramon’s officially off paternity leave. One month goes by far too quickly and he has been so supportive throughout the pregnancy, recovery and such a hands on parent. It’s been one heck of a tough adjustment. I barely leave the room and I’ve been scared to venture out of the house on my own (albeit, I know I shouldn’t until I get the all-clear from my GP at six weeks postpartum). Luckily, he’s able to work from home a few days a week which helps keep me sane.
So far, here is her tally:
Nappy Changes: 52
Sleep: 88 hours
Feeds: 129
Infants Friend has proven to help with Kenzie’s reflux, gas and wind problems. Although she still struggles, instead of being unsettled for over 2 hours, she’s only unsettled for 20-30 minutes which is a huge win in our books! We’re starting to get more sleep (till broken sleep but sleep is sleep right?).
She has 2 witching hours one in the morning between 8am to 12pm and another in the evening between 6pm to 10pm. During this time, she will be wide awake, sometimes staring into the abyss, sometimes wanting to be held, sometimes wanting to feed, sometimes wanting a nappy change. Whatever we do, she will not sleep for longer than a 30 minute period. This is where a baby carrier and a baby bouncer comes in handy!
We have started to get into a routine to start getting ready 3 hours before we head out and we make sure Kenzie gets dressed right before we walk out the door as she’s proven time and time again, if she is the first to get changed, she will definitely soil her brand-spanking new clothes and she may or may not include blankets, her mittens, booties and more. Our aim is not to be late but with a newborn, time management seems to be thrown out the window and we’re a tad bit late by 10-15 minutes. – We’re working on it! Last outing we were only late 5 minutes so we’re getting better.
Our baby is definitely growing. Not only does she have chubby cheeks, her arms and legs are fattening up so quickly that I am so thankful my milk supply is plentiful for her. It’s reassuring that she’s getting fed more than enough. This was something I feared and as much as I want to breastfeed, I believe in “Fed is Best” and will top up with formula if needed. We haven’t had to top up with formula (yet) as I still have an oversupply of milk but I have been pumping before a feed so that I have less foremilk and more hindmilk for Kenzie so that might have helped a bit in fattening her up quickly.
Soon Kenzie is scheduled for her first lot of vaccinations and I’ll finally (fingers and toes crossed) will get an all-clear from the GP and can finally start exercising. We’re ready to tackle week 6!
