We are at the “Double-Three’s” at week thirty three and this week welcomed us with a scorching 40+ degree day in Sydney. We learned from my mistake from the last super hot day we had and decided to stay in air-conditioning and not risk Kenzie suffering from heat rashes again.
So far, here is her tally:
Nappy Changes: 43
Sleep: 96 hours
Feeds: 100
Kenzie has kept us on our toes this week as she came down with the case of the sniffles and a light cough. She had just gone to the doctors last week and I’m adamant to not become one of “those mums” but it seems I’ll have to be if her nose continues to run. Breastfeeding has helped clear her blocked nose until she sneezes out grotty snot from both her nostrils. It started to clear up after a day but my mind has been so cloudy, I can’t concentrate and every sniffle and cough makes me worry. Her “first cold” is not a “first” we looked forward to at all. She was having trouble with breathing and figuring out the mechanics of just breathing through her mouth while her nose was blocked.
I have increased her fruit and vegetable feeds and just when we thought she would forever love her potatoes, she’s over them and would rather chicken nibbles, nuggets and fish! We have had to invest in Smocks as she has become such a messy eater. We encourage her to feed herself so that she is less reliant on us. This means we spend more time cleaning than we do enjoying our meal. Kenzie is still learning to coordinate her fists as she grabs hold of food but does not let it go so she chomps down on her fists. It’s so adorable but her frustrations start to show when she isn’t able to get any food out of her hand.
This week as Kenzie recovers from her first cold, she has been super clingy and has had difficulty sleeping as she gets blocked up, and coughs. However, she has started to communicate with us more and more an she will tell us when she wants to stand, when she’s bored and when she’s hungry. Speaking of being clingy, this little girl only clings to me till 6:30pm (when my mom gets home) and only will come back to me when she’s hungry.
Mackenzie has been dancing up a storm this week to Badanamu Pop Songs! She has got her favourites and we can’t help but smile so big our cheeks hurt.
She attended her first children’s Birthday Party this week at McDonalds! It bought back memories from when I had my own birthday at McDonalds. Not much has changed, although I do miss when staff dressed up in characters and Ronald McDonald came out for photos. Kenzie enjoyed it so much, not only did she get to eat her nuggets, she also got to play with helium balloons! I’ve lost count of how many people have forwarded me videos of babies with helium balloons tied to their hands and feet for entertainment and I know why! They are mesmerised. She didn’t even mind sitting on the big kids table without us there (as long as she had her balloon with her, she was happy)! She was the youngest one there and I felt for her that she couldn’t play on the playground with the rest of the girls but she definitely had such a fun time that she had such a long nap after.
It’s almost Easter and we are so excited to take Kenzie to the Royal Easter Show! We have never attended during the morning and only ever get “After Dark” tickets (after 5pm entry) as we were more interested in the rides and show bags than we were of the other entertainment. This year, we’ll be trying to make the most of the events they have and the petting zoo so that Kenzie can experience it for the first time in its entirety. It will definitely break our budget that week but we know it’ll be worth it!
