We have reached DOUBLE DIGITS! Yes folks, we’re at double digits and soon we’ll be counting in months instead of weeks. Wow, our little human is growing so fast.
So far, here is her tally:
Nappy Changes: 50
Sleep: 94 hours
Feeds: 65
Kenzie’s nails are growing super fast and she finds comfort in sucking on her fists. When she’s having trouble passing wind, we find that she scratches her face! We only had 3 pairs of mittens and while one pair had been lost while we were out, the other two were in the wash. Socks are the next best thing and works like a charm! I’m just so glad that breastmilk is a miracle cure and in a few days her scratches have cleared up!
Her face has cleared up thanks to Bepanthen nappy rash cream and she’s been so alert lately. We’ve discovered her love for her crib mobile where she laughs and makes the cutest squeals as she watched the elephants, birds and trees spin round and round. We invested in a plush play mat and an electric play mobile for play time. She can watch it spin round and round for almost an hour! We also got her hanging attachments for her pram to help with the stimulation. Soon she’ll be able to reach out and grab it. So far she’s only kicking her legs and cooing and smiling We’re still trying to get her used to tummy time to exercise her neck, back and shoulder muscles but she only has the patience for a couple of minutes at a time before she gets irate.
Kenzie has finally got distinguishing cries! She has her “fake” cries with no tears, her tired cry, her wet nappy cry and her hungry cry which has helped us so much with settling her.
This week started off rough! She cried her little lungs out at midnight and was wide awake and alert for a few hours before falling back asleep. This week, she is going through “Leap 2” and we know we’re just going to have to ride this leap out and be patient and allow her to handle the changes her own way. If that means we lose a few hours of sleep and are constantly trying to settle her, so be it. It’s a struggle and we are trying out damn hardest not to snap and understand that it’s all part of her development.
Next week we are off to Brisbane with an 11 week old! Let’s see how this goes.
